Rice required just two quarters on October 29, 1995 in the game against the New Orleans Saints to surpass the 73
yards receiving he needed to move past the 14,004 receiving yards amassed by James Lofton from
1978 to 1993. Rice had eight catches for 108 yards, giving him 14,040 career yards in 10 1/2
seasons.
Rice became the all-time leader when he caught a 13-yard pass from Elvis Grbac in the second
quarter for his sixth reception of the game. Rice received a standing ovation from the 3Com Park
